MOGADISHU – Somalia and Djibouti have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a framework for regular political consultations between the two neighboring countries.

The agreement was signed on Saturday in Mogadishu by Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, and Djibouti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Abdulqadir Hussein Omar.

According to officials, the MoU is designed to strengthen diplomatic cooperation and advance the two nations’ shared priorities at both regional and international levels. The discussions also touched on enhancing bilateral ties, promoting security and regional stability, and addressing global issues of common interest.

Both ministers underscored the need for closer collaboration to achieve peace, development, and prosperity in the Horn of Africa. However, neither government provided further details about the agreement.

Somalia and Djibouti, bound by deep historical and cultural ties, have long maintained a strong partnership, which both sides continue to expand in pursuit of greater cooperation and stability.
