NEW YORK, (HAN) – Somalia and Serbia have signed a new diplomatic cooperation agreement in New York, focusing on skills training and professional development for diplomats from both countries.

The accord was formalized during a bilateral meeting between Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, AbdisalamAbdi Ali, and Serbia’s Foreign Minister, Marko Đurić, on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly.

The memorandum of understanding was signed between the Diplomatic Studies Institute of Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Diplomatic Academy of Serbia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It highlights close cooperation in the areas of diplomatic training, capacity building, and knowledge exchange aimed at strengthening the professional expertise of diplomats.

Relations between Somalia and Serbia have been steadily improving in recent years. Notably, Belgrade has previously provided specialized training for units of the Somali police force, further solidifying bilateral ties.
