Mogadishu – The governments of Somalia and Switzerland have signed a cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening collaboration on migration management, with a particular focus on training Somali immigration officials.
As part of the new partnership, Switzerland has committed to supporting the capacity-building efforts of Somalia’s Immigration and Naturalization Directorate. A delegation from Somalia is currently in Switzerland to take part in specialized training sessions.
According to an official statement released by the Swiss government, the training program focuses on border management, including the inspection of passports and identity documents. The training will enhance Somalia’s ability to monitor and control cross-border movements, especially at key border points shared with neighboring Kenya and Ethiopia.
The initiative is also designed to help combat illegal migration and human smuggling in the Horn of Africa region.
The agreement follows a formal signing between Mustaf Sheikh Ali Dhuhulow, Director General of Somalia’s Immigration and Naturalization Directorate, and Ambassador Hendrick Krauskopf, Head of the International Migration Affairs Division at Switzerland’s State Secretariat for Migration.
Both sides have described the agreement as a vital step toward improving migration governance and ensuring more secure and efficient border control in Somalia.
