Mogadishu — The Federal Republic of Somalia and the Kingdom have held in-depth discussions on the security transition and future cooperation between the two nations, with a particular focus on stabilizing Somalia amid ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and promote development.
Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Abdisalam Abdi Ali, hosted the newly appointed British Ambassador to Somalia, H.E. Charles King, in Mogadishu. The two officials exchanged views on deepening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation in the fields of security, politics, and development.
A key focus of the talks was the ongoing security transition in Somalia. The officials discussed the crucial role the United Kingdom plays in supporting the African Union Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), the mission that recently replaced the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).
Both sides agreed on the importance of continued British support for peacekeeping forces, particularly in strengthening Somalia’s capacity to combat Al-Shabaab and promoting long-term national stability.
In addition to security, the meeting explored ways to expand diplomatic and development partnerships, signaling a strong mutual commitment to reinforcing ties between Somalia and the UK.
The talks reflect growing international engagement with Somalia’s progress and the commitment of allies like the UK to support its journey toward peace, stability, and development.
