Nairobi – The 25th session of the Finance Ministers’ Forum for the Horn of Africa Cooperation officially opened today in Nairobi, Kenya, with Somalia taking the lead as the chairing nation for this year’s summit.

Somalia’s Minister of Finance, H.E. Bihi Iman Ige presided over the high-level meeting, which brings together finance leaders from across the region to deepen economic cooperation and foster digital transformation among Horn of Africa countries.
In his opening address, Minister Bihi emphasized the importance of modernizing financial systems through digital integration. He noted that adopting advanced digital strategies can significantly contribute to economic development, job creation, and regional connectivity.
“The implementation of digital systems plays a key role in boosting economic progress and linking our nations more closely. It is a path toward innovation, transparency, and efficiency in public financial management,” said Minister Bihi.
This year’s forum focuses on how Horn of Africa countries can collaborate to enhance digital service integration—a key step towards inclusive economic growth in a rapidly evolving digital world. As global economies increasingly rely on digital infrastructure, regional cooperation in digital development is seen as vital for competitiveness and resilience.
The Horn of Africa Cooperation Forum has consistently served as a platform for dialogue and collaboration among member states, aiming to strengthen regional integration and promote shared economic interests.
Today’s session sets the tone for enhanced coordination on policies that support digital finance, infrastructure development, and sustainable economic partnerships across the region.
