MOGADISHU, (HAN) — In separate developments, Somalia’s National Independent Electoral Commission has confirmed that a one-person, one-vote election will be held on November 30, marking a historic step toward democratic reform in the Horn of Africa nation.
Commission Chairman Abdikarim Ahmed said preparations are underway to ensure transparency and broad participation, emphasizing that the vote will be the first of its kind in decades.
“Whether the opposition accepts it or not, we are committed to conducting a one-person, one-vote election,” said government representative Birmade, highlighting the administration’s determination to strengthen democracy.
Holding the election in Mogadishu, despite security challenges, is seen as a critical symbol of national unity and state authority. Analysts say a credible and peaceful vote could stabilize the country, build confidence in its institutions, and strengthen Somalia’s transition from a clan-based power-sharing system to a more inclusive democratic framework.
