Koryoley — Reports from the Lower Shabelle region in Somalia, confirm that armed militia launched an attack last night in the town of Koryoley, resulting in both fatalities and injuries.

According to local sources, the assailants opened fire on a business premises where civilians had gathered, before fleeing the scene. At least one person — a woman from the local community — was killed, while several others were injured.

The exact motive behind the attack remains unclear. However, the incident is believed to be linked to ongoing clan-related tensions that have contributed to insecurity in the district. Koryoley has witnessed repeated clashes between rival militias in recent years, which have had a devastating impact on the civilian population.

These continuing conflicts have also hindered development efforts and disrupted economic activity, with major markets forced to close due to the persistent violence.

Located in the fertile basin along the Shabelle River, Koryoley district is known for its agricultural potential. However, like many parts of southern- central Somalia, it continues to face significant security challenges, including periodic armed attacks and bombings.
