OSLO – Somalia’s Minister of Family Affairs and Human Rights, Amb. Khadiija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, is leading a high-level delegation on an official working visit to Norway, where she held a fruitful meeting with Norway’s Secretary of Labor and Social Affairs, Mr. Kjetil Vevle.

The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation between Somalia and Norway, particularly in advancing social development, child welfare, women’s empowerment, and support for people with disabilities.

Minister Al-Makhzoumi was accompanied by the Ministry’s Director General, Mohamed Bashir Omar, and Abdullahi Mohamed Alas, a Somali-born councilor in Norway. Both sides engaged in in-depth talks on improving social services for vulnerable groups.

The Somali delegation also met with Ms. Kristin Hagstad, Director General of the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD). Their talks highlighted expanding development cooperation, with a focus on child protection, women’s programs, and essential social services.

Minister Al-Makhzoumi underline the importance of the visit in strengthening long-term cooperation between Somalia and Norway, particularly in building systems that safeguard human rights and enhance social services.

During the mission, the Minister and her delegation are also scheduled to hold further key meetings with Norwegian government officials and international organizations operating in the country.
