Algiers — Somalia has officially taken part in the 44th Annual General Meeting of Shelter Afrique, a major pan-African conference focused on housing and urban development across the continent. The event, which opened in the capital city of Algiers, Algeria, brings together high-level government officials, policymakers, and development experts from across Africa.
Representing the Federal Government of Somalia is the State Minister for the Ministry of Public Works, Reconstruction, and Housing, Hon. Said Mohamed Mahmoud-Hayd, who is leading the Somali delegation at the conference. Minister Hayd and his team are participating in high-level consultations and discussions on key agenda items that concern the future of affordable and sustainable housing in Africa.
During the course of the conference, participants will delve into strategies aimed at reducing the continent’s heavy reliance on imported construction materials. A major theme of the discussions is how to foster broader collaboration and partnership among African nations to implement housing projects more effectively over the next five years.
Somalia, which continues to rebuild after decades of conflict, is expected to benefit from these regional dialogues by sharing its experiences and learning from successful housing initiatives elsewhere on the continent. The Somali delegation is also using the opportunity to explore investment and technical support for ongoing housing and reconstruction projects at home.
Shelter Afrique, a pan-African finance institution dedicated to housing and urban development, hosts this annual event as part of its commitment to fostering sustainable development and providing innovative housing solutions tailored to Africa’s unique needs.
