MOGADISHU, (HAN) – The State Minister of the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hon. Sadad Alio, is attending the 76th Session of the Executive Committee of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), which is taking place in Geneva, Switzerland, from October 6 to 10, 2025.
The high-level meeting brings together representatives from UN member states, international organizations, and humanitarian agencies to discuss global refugee situations, protection challenges, and the search for durable solutions for displaced populations.
Somalia is participating as one of the countries that hosts a significant number of refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs), while also working to support voluntary repatriation and reintegration efforts for Somali refugees returning from neighboring countries.
State Minister Sadad Alio is accompanied by the Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees and IDPs (NCRI), Mr. Ahmed Hussein Ilmi, as part of Somalia’s delegation to the meeting.
The Somali delegation is expected to highlight the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen refugee protection, address the needs of displaced communities, and seek increased international support for humanitarian and development programs aimed at promoting stability and resilience across the country.
The session will also review UNHCR’s global operations, funding priorities, and collaborative approaches to tackle displacement crises around the world.
