NEW DELHI — Somalia has taken part in the Arab–India Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, as the country seeks to strengthen diplomatic, economic, and development cooperation with partners in the Arab world and India.
Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, arrived in New Delhi to represent the Federal Republic of Somalia at the high-level meeting, which brings together foreign ministers and senior officials from Arab states and India.
The meeting is focused on enhancing political dialogue, expanding economic cooperation, and promoting partnerships in areas such as trade, investment, energy, and sustainable development. Somali officials said the country is playing an active role in discussions related to shared regional and international interests.
Upon his arrival at Indira Gandhi International Airport, Minister Abdisalam was received by Somalia’s Ambassador to India, Abdullahi Mohamed Odowaa, senior officials from the Somali Embassy in New Delhi, and Dr. Suresh Kumar, a representative of India’s Ministry of External Affairs.
Speaking on the sidelines of the meeting, Minister Abdisalam underscored the importance of the forum for Somalia, noting that it offers opportunities to deepen political relations and attract economic partnerships that could support the country’s recovery and development efforts.
Ambassador Odowaa highlighted the diplomatic significance of the visit, describing it as part of Somalia’s broader efforts to strengthen ties with India and Arab partners through multilateral engagement.
The Arab–India Foreign Ministers’ Meeting is expected to conclude with joint understandings and possible agreements aimed at reinforcing cooperation in commerce, investment, energy security, and initiatives supporting peace and stability in the region.
Somalia has in recent years intensified its diplomatic outreach, seeking greater international engagement as it works to rebuild state institutions and boost economic growth following decades of conflict.
