ALGIERS — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has arrived in Algiers, the capital of Algeria, on an official state visit at the invitation of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

The president, accompanied by a high-level delegation of Somali government officials, ministers, and diplomats, was warmly received at Houari Boumediene International Airport by senior Algerian officials, members of Somalia’s embassy staff, and representatives of the Somali community in Algeria.

According to the Somali Presidency, the visit aims to strengthen the historic relations between Somalia and Algeria and to enhance cooperation in areas of security, trade, education, and diplomacy.

During his stay, President Hassan Sheikh is expected to hold bilateral talks with President Tebboune and other senior Algerian officials. The two leaders will discuss ways to deepen collaboration in counterterrorism, economic investment, and educational exchange programmes.

Diplomatic sources say the talks will also explore Algeria’s potential support for Somalia’s reconstruction and stabilization efforts, as well as broader cooperation between Somalia and African Union member states.

In a statement following his arrival, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud thanked the government and people of Algeria for their warm welcome and hospitality. He emphasized Somalia’s commitment to building a stronger partnership with Algeria, rooted in shared African values and solidarity.

“Algeria is a brotherly nation to Somalia. We believe our bilateral relations are vital and should be expanded, particularly in the areas of security, education, and economic cooperation,” President Hassan Sheikh said.

The visit is viewed as part of Somalia’s broader diplomatic outreach to strengthen ties with key African partners as the country continues its path toward peace, state-building, and regional cooperation.
