BUSAN, (HAN) – Somalia and South Korea have held high-level talks aimed at strengthening cooperation in food security and climate resilience during a meeting in the South Korean port city of Busan.
A Somali delegation from the Ministry of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development, led by Director General Mohamed Shire, met with Mr. Kim Shinjae, Director of International Agricultural Development at South Korea’s Ministry of Agriculture.
Discussions centered on enhancing food security, improving resilience to climate change, and advancing sustainable economic growth in line with Somalia’s forthcoming National Transformation Plan (NTP 2025–2029).
Both sides agreed to expand support for Somali farmers and rural communities, with a focus on promoting climate-resilient agricultural practices to boost productivity and withstand extreme weather conditions.
The officials also underscored the importance of increasing access to nutritious food for schoolchildren, strengthening early warning systems to respond to droughts and floods, and supporting health and education through improved food systems.
The meeting highlights deepening international engagement with Somalia on pressing development priorities, particularly those related to food systems, environmental sustainability, and climate adaptation.
