MOGADISHU, (HAN) – Somalia is preparing to host the second edition of the East Africa Community Conference (EACON) in 2025, a landmark event that will bring together political leaders, business stakeholders, experts, and civil society representatives from across the region.

The announcement was made by Ali Mohamed Omar, Somalia’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in charge of East African Community (EAC) Affairs. He confirmed that preparations for the international gathering are already in progress.
According to Minister Omar, EACON 2025 will provide Somalia with a strategic platform to consolidate its membership within the East African Community and deepen its role in advancing regional cooperation. He noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is spearheading organizational efforts to ensure successful arrangements.
The high-level conference is expected to draw participation from heads of state of EAC member nations, alongside leading academics, investors, and civil society leaders. Discussions will focus on key regional priorities, including economic development, security collaboration, trade integration, and social cohesion within the bloc.
Minister Omar reiterated Somalia’s commitment to actively contributing to regional integration. He emphasized that Mogadishu intends to host the event in a manner that reflects dignity, hospitality, and professionalism.
He further urged government institutions and the private sector to extend their support, stressing that a successful conference would not only enhance Somalia’s diplomatic standing but also strengthen its image as a reliable and engaged member of the East African Community.
