MOGADISHU, (HAN) – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is expected to travel to Uganda from October 7 to 8 to attend a high-level business and investment forum bringing together Somali and Ugandan entrepreneurs.

During the forum, business representatives from both countries are set to sign memoranda of understanding (MoUs) aimed at boosting trade and investment.

The agreements will allow Somali traders to expand their businesses into Uganda, while Ugandan investors will be encouraged to explore opportunities in Somalia’s growing market.

Officials say the gathering is designed to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation and create a more favorable environment for cross-border commerce.

Somali businesses already operate in countries such as Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, and beyond, but often face restrictive regulations imposed on foreign nationals. The Somali government has signaled its intention to ease these barriers by aligning trade procedures with East African Community (EAC) standards, in order to facilitate smoother movement of goods, services, and investments.

The forum is seen as an important step toward deepening economic ties between Mogadishu and Kampala, while supporting Somalia’s wider integration into the regional economic bloc.
