Mogadishu: The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, officially launched Somalia’s Century Vision 2060 today in the capital, Mogadishu. This is a long-term future vision that forms part of the national transformation plan.

The purpose of this vision is to guide the country’s development path up to the end of the 21st century. The launching ceremony, held in Mogadishu, was attended by top officials from the federal government, representatives from the federal member states, members of civil society, business leaders, youth groups, and Somalia’s international partners.

What is the Century Vision 2060?

The Century Vision 2060 is a long-term strategic framework aimed at transforming Somalia into a peaceful, self-reliant nation grounded in justice, social progress, and economic development. Key pillars of the vision include:

  • Building a stable, democratic government
  • Strengthening domestic production
  • Promoting education and innovation
  • Modernizing economic infrastructure
  • Aligning with global climate change adaptation policies and regulations
  • And other developmental priorities

Despite the optimism surrounding the launch, many Somalis are watching closely to see whether this vision will be implemented effectively, or if it will remain merely a ceremonial announcement with speeches from political leaders.

The launch of Vision 2060 symbolizes Somalia’s ambition for national reconstruction, self-sufficiency, and sustainable development, but its real test lies in practical, consistent action.
