Lower Juba — Somalia’s elite Danab Commandos conducted a successful counter-terrorism operation on Friday in the village of Harboole, Lower Juba region, targeting senior commanders of the al-Shabaab militant group.
According to the Somali National Army (SNA), the intelligence-led raid aimed to neutralize key al-Shabaab figures responsible for orchestrating terror attacks, including kidnappings and cross-border assaults. The operation resulted in the deaths of several high-ranking militants.
Military sources reported that Danab forces acted swiftly and precisely, also seizing a large cache of weapons, ammunition, and supplies believed to be used for future attacks and for exerting control over local communities.
“This operation is part of our broader strategy to dismantle al-Shabaab’s leadership and protect the Somali people,” said a senior SNA official.
The Somali government has intensified its offensive against al-Shabaab in southern and central Somalia. The Harboole operation is part of a growing campaign to reclaim territory and weaken the militant group’s influence, especially in rural areas.
Security analysts view the operation as a sign of the increasing capability of Somali forces, particularly the Danab unit, in the ongoing fight against terrorism.
