MOGADISHU – The Commander of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) has praised Somalia’s elite Danab Brigade as the most powerful military unit on the African continent in terms of combat skills, strategy, and counterterrorism operations.

During his visit to Mogadishu, the AFRICOM chief commended Danab’s pivotal role in the fight against al-Shabaab, highlighting their battlefield experience, bravery, and specialized training as a model for security forces across Africa.
The Danab Brigade recently secured first place in an AFRICOM-led military exercise held over the past two years, underscoring their growing reputation as a premier force.

Backed by U.S. training and equipment, Danab remains the backbone of Somalia’s national counterterrorism operations. The unit routinely carries out planned offensives across regions including Hiiraan, Middle and Lower Shabelle, Lower Juba, Galmudug, and other parts of the country.
The AFRICOM commander’s remarks further elevate Danab’s international profile, positioning them as a reliable force capable of executing complex missions and safeguarding Somalia’s sovereignty.
Meanwhile, discussions are underway on expanding the brigade’s numbers and equipping them with more advanced weaponry to meet evolving security challenges.
