MOGADISHU, (HAN) – Somalia stands at a pivotal crossroads, and experts are urging that the country’s future be decided from within—not dictated by foreign interests or individuals with a record of undermining state governance.

Five prominent figures, long associated with opposition to Somali governance, have drawn criticism for attempting to influence national decisions, despite past links to attacks on military installations such as the Wardhiigley base.

“This is a government with a constitutional mandate to safeguard Somalia’s future,” a Horn of Africa analyst told HAN. “Leadership, governance, and security decisions must be made by Somalis—not outsiders.”

As Somalia prepares for one-person-one-vote elections, seeks to develop its oil resources, and works to maintain security, analysts warn against allowing opportunistic political actors to hijack the nation’s trajectory.

“This is a moment to move beyond historical divisions,” experts emphasize. “The Somali people must determine their future free from the shadow of those who have long sought to undermine it.”
