Lasanod – Somalia’s Minister of Defense, Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, has officially welcomed the formation of the Northeast Somalia Administration, calling it a legitimate outcome of popular will and a critical step toward strengthening national unity.
In a statement delivered this week, Minister Fiqi praised the new regional administration—based in Lasanod and encompassing the regions of Sool, Sanaag, Cayn, and Togdheer—as a product of the Somali people’s determination and resilience in overcoming political and social challenges.
“This administration did not emerge through foreign interference or external agendas,” said Minister Fiqi. “It is a locally driven initiative that reflects political maturity and grassroots capacity. It has revived national unity and weakened the hopes of secession.”
Fiqi described the new administration as a powerful symbol of the Somali people’s ongoing struggle to build a functioning state and preserve national cohesion. He added that its creation represents a milestone in Somalia’s federal journey and offers a hopeful model for inclusive governance.
The Defense Minister also extended his best wishes to the communities living in the new Northeast administration, expressing hope that it would usher in an era of peace, stability, and lasting development.
His remarks come shortly after the Federal Government of Somalia officially announced the establishment of the Northeast Somalia Administration, following a national conference in Lasanod. The gathering brought together hundreds of delegates from the regions involved, who endorsed a provisional constitution and confirmed Lasanod as the seat of the new administration.
The move is widely seen as a response to local demands for representation and unity under Somalia’s federal framework, and a counterweight to secessionist aspirations in the north.
