Mogadishu – Somalia’s Minister of Finance, Hon. Bihi Iman Egeh, held a high-level meeting today at the Ministry’s headquarters in Mogadishu with James Swan, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (SRSG) for Somalia, along with senior officials from the UN office in the country.

The meeting focused on Somalia’s economic trajectory, emphasizing the federal government’s ongoing efforts in reforming public financial management and ensuring macroeconomic stability.

Key topics included increasing domestic revenue collection, a core priority for the Somali government as it works toward self-sufficiency and sustainable development.

According to sources close to the meeting, both sides acknowledged the significant progress made in recent years despite security and institutional challenges. Minister Bihi underscored the importance of international partnerships in advancing Somalia’s economic agenda and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and fiscal discipline.

The UN delegation, led by Mr. Swan, expressed support for Somalia’s economic reform roadmap and reiterated the UN’s willingness to continue assisting in capacity building and policy support through relevant programs and agencies.

This meeting also marks another step forward in the strong cooperation between the Federal Government of Somalia and the United Nations in the shared goal of fostering a stable, self-reliant Somali state.
