DHUSAMAREEB, (HAN) — Police forces in Somalia’s Galmudug state have arrested two men suspected of killing a mother and her three daughters in a clan-related revenge attack in the Galgaduud region, officials said Thursday.

According to security officials, the brutal attack, which shocked residents, was motivated by a long-running clan feud that has recently escalated in parts of Galmudug.

Police in Galgaduud said the two suspects were captured during a planned operation after receiving credible intelligence about their hideout.

“Our forces acted on accurate intelligence and apprehended the suspects without resistance,” said a senior police commander in Galgaduud. “They have been transferred to the central prison in Dhusamareeb for further investigation,” the officer told reporters.

The killing has drawn widespread condemnation from local elders and community members, who urged authorities to bring the perpetrators swiftly to justice and to intensify efforts to end recurring clan violence in the region.

Galmudug authorities reiterated their commitment to protecting civilians and restoring law and order, warning that they would not tolerate clan-based revenge attacks or any form of vigilante justice.

“The government will not allow civilians to be targeted because of clan hostilities,” said a statement from Galmudug’s Ministry of Security. “Our operations will continue until peace and stability are fully restored.”

Clan revenge killings remain one of the key security challenges in central Somalia, where weak local governance and limited law enforcement have often allowed such conflicts to flare up.
