A delegation led by Ali Jeyte Osman, the Special Envoy of the President of Somalia on Ma’awisley Affairs, has arrived in Jigjiga, the capital of the Somali Regional State in Ethiopia.

Ali Jeyte and his delegation began their journey from Maxaas district in central Somalia and made a stop in Beledweyne before crossing the border into Ethiopia.

The visit marks a significant development in regional cooperation between Somalia and Ethiopia, particularly in relation to counter-terrorism efforts.
Although the Somali government has not officially disclosed the purpose of Jeyte’s trip, sources close to the matter told Hiiraanweyn that the visit likely focuses on enhancing security cooperation. Reports suggest that discussions may involve how the Somali Regional State in Ethiopia (DDS) can support local community militias—commonly referred to as Macawiisley—in their ongoing fight against the militant group Al-Shabaab, especially in areas inhabited by the Hawadle clan.
The Ma’awisley, a grassroots civilian militia movement, has played a growing role in combating Al-Shabaab’s influence in central Somalia. Jeyte, who has been a key figure in organizing and supporting the movement, is believed to be seeking regional alliances to strengthen their efforts.
Jeyte’s trip coincided with the recent support that the aHiraan people received from their brothers in the Somali Regional State administration of Ethiopia.
Further details about the meetings and potential agreements have yet to be made public.
