New York – Somalia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Abukar Osman Baale, delivered a powerful address at the UN, condemning Israel’s blockade of Gaza and the worsening humanitarian crisis in the region.

Baale accused Israel of committing “genocide” through military occupation, man-made famine, and relentless attacks on civilians, stressing that such actions constitute clear violations of international law.

She urged the UN Security Council to act swiftly, calling for:
• An immediate ceasefire
• Unrestricted humanitarian access
• Protection of civilian infrastructure in Gaza

“This is not just a political issue but a human tragedy,” Baale said. “Every hour of inaction costs innocent lives.”

The session comes amid rising international pressure for a two-state solution, renewed peace talks, and urgent calls for humanitarian relief. The debate also touched on the ongoing hostage crisis and the risk of further escalation in the Middle East.

Whether the UN will move beyond statements to concrete action remains uncertain, but Somalia’s intervention adds to a growing chorus of voices demanding accountability and urgent measures to end the suffering in Gaza.
