PRETORIA, (HAN) – South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged football organizations to hold humanitarian matches in solidarity with Palestinians affected by the ongoing conflict with Israel.
Speaking in Pretoria, President Ramaphosa highlighted the need for global awareness and support for civilians caught in the violence. He described the initiative as a way to unite communities through sport while drawing attention to the humanitarian crisis in Palestine.
“The power of sport can bring people together and shine a light on the suffering of innocent civilians. We urge governments, organizations, and sports communities to participate in this initiative to support our brothers and sisters in Palestine,” Ramaphosa said.
The proposed matches aim to raise funds and awareness for humanitarian aid, focusing on providing medical supplies, food, and shelter for those affected by the conflict. Officials noted that the events would also serve as a platform for dialogue and advocacy for peace in the region.
The announcement comes amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, as international leaders continue to call for urgent humanitarian assistance and civilian protection.
