MOGADISHU – The Speaker of Somalia’s House of the People, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Madoobe), on Monday met with the new European Union Ambassador to Somalia, Francesca Di Mauro, and her deputy, Karin Gatt-Rutter, in Mogadishu.

Talks centered on boosting cooperation between the EU and Somalia’s parliament, with a focus on the constitutional review process and other key legislation under debate.
Ambassador Di Mauro expressed appreciation for the Speaker’s warm welcome and praised parliament’s efforts to push forward laws critical to Somalia’s state-building. She reaffirmed the EU’s readiness to provide both political and technical support to the Federal Government and the legislature.
Speaker Madoobe welcomed the new envoy and outlined parliament’s priorities, including finalizing outstanding constitutional provisions and enacting essential legislation to strengthen governance.
He underlined that Somalis have high expectations for their institutions, stressing the urgency of delivering a permanent constitution and laws that address the needs of the nation and its citizens.
