MOGADISHU – The Speaker of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur (Madoobe), today held a high-level meeting with James Swan, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Somalia, at the parliamentary headquarters in Mogadishu.

The meeting aimed to reinforce and deepen the working relationship between the House of the People and the UN office in Somalia, focusing on areas critical to the country’s stability and development.

During the discussion, Ambassador Swan provided a comprehensive briefing on the ongoing programs and initiatives his office is implementing across Somalia, including support for political processes, humanitarian assistance, and capacity-building efforts for government institutions.

Mr. Swan reaffirmed the UN’s unwavering commitment to assisting the Somali government and people in navigating the country’s complex security and development challenges.

In response, Speaker Sheikh Aden Madoobe expressed appreciation for the UN’s continued engagement and the tangible impact of its initiatives in Somalia.

He also highlighted the importance of international support in strengthening security, advancing political reconciliation, and enhancing the operational capacity of Somali institutions.

However, the Speaker also called for expanded UN involvement in facilitating inclusive governance and socio-economic development.

The meeting concluded with both leaders agreeing to maintain close collaboration and to explore new avenues for international support aimed at promoting peace, stability, and sustainable development in Somalia.
