RABAT — Tunisia began their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 campaign with a confident 3-1 victory over Uganda in a Group C opening match, producing a dominant performance that underlined their early tournament ambitions.
The North Africans controlled the match from the opening whistle, dictating possession and tempo while pressing high and forcing Uganda into defensive errors. Tunisia’s early pressure paid off as they found the breakthrough in the first half, opening the scoring and steadily growing in confidence.
Tunisia added two more goals as the match progressed, capitalizing on their superior movement and finishing to build a commanding 3-0 lead. Their organized defensive structure limited Uganda’s attacking opportunities, with the Cranes struggling to create clear chances against a disciplined Tunisian back line.
Uganda managed to pull one goal back late in the match, offering a brief moment of encouragement for their supporters. However, the goal came too late to threaten a comeback, as Tunisia comfortably managed the closing stages to secure all three points.
The result places Tunisia at the top of Group C alongside Nigeria, who also claimed victory in their opening fixture. Uganda, meanwhile, start the group stage without a point and will aim to bounce back in their next match as they seek to keep their tournament hopes alive.
