MOGADISHU — Officers from the TURKSOM Training School in Somalia have delivered humanitarian assistance to residents displaced by recent militant attacks in Awdheegle, a district in the Lower Shabelle region.
According to officials, the aid delivery was part of a broader effort to support civilians affected by the ongoing conflict between government forces and Al-Shabaab militants in southern Somalia. The assistance included food supplies, clean water, and emergency medical items for families who fled their homes following the latest wave of violence.
Local elders and community representatives in Awdheegle expressed deep gratitude to the Turkish-trained Somali officers for their swift response and compassion toward vulnerable families, emphasizing that such gestures help strengthen trust between the military and local communities.
At the same time, the Somali government has evacuated several civilians from Awdheegle to Mogadishu for medical treatment. Health officials confirmed that those transported to the capital were in serious condition due to injuries and trauma sustained during the attacks.
Government sources said the evacuees are receiving treatment in Mogadishu hospitals under the supervision of medical teams coordinated by the Ministry of Health and the Somali National Army’s humanitarian wing.
Officials commended the continued support of TURKSOM, the Turkish-Somali military training mission based in Mogadishu, which plays a crucial role in both security operations and community assistance efforts across Somalia.
The aid initiative reflects growing cooperation between Somali and Turkish forces, as both countries work together to stabilize liberated areas, restore public confidence, and extend humanitarian aid to those displaced by terrorism and conflict.
