UNITED NATIONS — The United States has reaffirmed that its policy toward Somalia remains unchanged, stressing its full support for the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, U.S. officials said during an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council.

Speaking at the session, which was requested by Somalia to address what it described as Israeli interference in its internal affairs, the U.S. delegation said Washington continues to view Somalia as a single, sovereign state with internationally recognized borders.

The United States described its position as essential to safeguarding Somalia’s national sovereignty and maintaining broader stability in the Horn of Africa, a region that has faced years of conflict and insecurity.

“The United States remains firmly committed to the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia,” the U.S. representative said, adding that these principles are fundamental to peace and stability in the region.

U.S. officials emphasized that Somalia’s borders are internationally recognized and must be respected, warning against any actions that could undermine the country’s unity or encourage fragmentation. Washington said it holds a clear and consistent position opposing any attempts to divide Somalia or weaken its federal system through unilateral measures.

The U.S. delegation also called on the international community, particularly the UN Security Council and the African Union, to adopt a unified stance in defending Somalia’s sovereignty. It urged partners to prevent any steps that could destabilize the country or threaten regional security.

The emergency meeting highlighted growing diplomatic tensions surrounding Somalia’s territorial integrity, as well as broader concerns about foreign involvement in the Horn of Africa. The session concluded with calls for continued international engagement to support Somalia’s state-building efforts, security reforms and long-term stability.

The United States reiterated that it will continue to support Somalia through diplomatic engagement, security cooperation and international partnerships aimed at promoting peace, countering extremism and strengthening governance.
