KAMPALA – Uganda will host the FIFA World Cup 2026 Group G qualifier between Somalia and Guinea at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Namboole on September 5, 2025.

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) confirmed it had accepted a request from the Somali Football Federation to stage the match in Kampala, as Somalia does not currently have a FIFA- or CAF-approved stadium.
“Somalia requested us to host their fixture since they do not have a stadium that meets FIFA and CAF requirements. We agreed to hold it on the same day Uganda will also play against Mozambique,” FUFA Chief Executive Officer Edgar Watson told Xinhua.
Somalia sits at the bottom of Group G with just one point from six games, while Guinea ranks fifth with seven points. Uganda, still chasing its first-ever World Cup qualification in both men’s and women’s football, is currently fourth with nine points. Algeria leads the group with 15 points, having won five matches and lost one.
Africa will send nine teams to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
