MOGADISHU — The British Embassy in Mogadishu marked the birthday of His Majesty King Charles III on 19 November 2025, hosting a lively celebration that underscored the deepening partnership between the United Kingdom and Somalia.

The annual King’s Birthday Party brought together senior Somali government officials, civil society members, diplomats, and international partners. Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre attended as the guest of honor, praising the long-standing cooperation between the two nations.

British Ambassador Charles King, hosting his first King’s Birthday event in Somalia, used the occasion to highlight the people driving Somalia’s progress.

“I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than with Somali changemakers—young scholars, government officials, entrepreneurs, and innovators shaping the Somalia of tomorrow,” the ambassador said.

“The UK is proud to stand with Somalia as a steadfast partner. Our support for education, health, economic development, and security is built on trust, respect, and shared ambition.”

The event blended both Somali and British traditions, featuring Somali cultural performances, UK-style refreshments such as fish and chips, and a London Black Cab photo booth—symbolizing the fusion of cultures and friendship.

A key moment of the evening was the unveiling of the 2026 Somalia calendar, sponsored by Hormuud, Whitestar, and Salaam Bank. The calendar features winning photographs from a nationwide competition, capturing everyday life, creativity, and resilience across Somalia. Copies were gifted to guests as a token of shared pride and partnership.

The celebration highlighted the UK’s continuing diplomatic engagement in Somalia and its focus on supporting stability, development, and long-term collaboration.
