Citing a US intelligence assessment, CNN reports that US President Donald Trump’s air strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites “did not destroy the core components” of the country’s nuclear programme.
Trump hailed the attack as a “spectacular” success, claiming Iran’s nuclear sites were “obliterated”.
Nevertheless, Tehran has yet to issue a formal response to the latest assessment, though Iranian officials previously dismissed the strikes as “symbolic aggression” and vowed to continue developing what they describe as a peaceful nuclear energy program.
The international community remains divided on how best to address Iran’s nuclear trajectory. While some allies supported the U.S. operation, others—including European Union members—have called for renewed negotiations and a return to the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which Trump withdrew from during his presidency.
As tensions in the region continue to simmer, the intelligence revelation casts new doubt on the long-term effectiveness of military solutions in curbing Iran’s nuclear progress.
