MOGADISHU — The Federal Government of Somalia has conveyed its deep condolences to the government and people of Pakistan following a deadly explosion at a mosque in the Tarlai neighborhood of Islamabad during Friday prayers, an attack that left dozens of worshippers dead and many more injured.
In a statement issued by Somali authorities, the government said it was “deeply saddened” by reports that at least 31 people were killed and 169 others wounded in the blast, the majority of them civilians gathered for weekly congregational prayers.
This incident has shocked communities in Pakistan and drawn condemnation from several countries.
Somalia expressed heartfelt sympathy to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to those receiving medical treatment. The statement emphasized that targeting civilians and places of worship represents a grave violation of humanitarian and moral principles.
“The Federal Government of Somalia strongly condemns all acts of violence and terrorism directed at innocent civilians and sacred places,” the statement said, reaffirming Somalia’s solidarity with Pakistan in its efforts to ensure peace, security and social stability.
Somali officials noted that the country, which has faced its own long struggle against extremist violence, understands the pain caused by such attacks and stands with Pakistan in confronting the threat of terrorism. The government also reiterated its commitment to international cooperation aimed at combating extremist groups and protecting civilian lives.
No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the explosion, and Pakistani authorities are continuing investigations into the incident.
The message from Mogadishu underscored the longstanding diplomatic ties between Somalia and Pakistan and highlighted the importance of unity among nations in addressing global security challenges.
