MOGADISHU — The Commander of the Somali National Army’s Ground Forces, General Sahal Cabdullahi Cumar, held high-level talks with his Turkish counterpart, General Metin Tokel, in a meeting aimed at strengthening military ties between the two countries.
According to official sources, the discussions focused on enhancing bilateral defense cooperation and improving joint operational coordination between the Somali and Turkish ground forces. The two commanders reviewed ongoing collaboration and explored new strategies to accelerate military training programs, improve force professionalism, and boost overall defense capabilities.
The meeting also highlighted Turkey’s continued support in rebuilding and modernizing Somalia’s armed forces, a partnership that has intensified in recent years through training, equipment, and strategic advisory roles.
At the conclusion of the talks, General Sahal expressed appreciation for Turkey’s “brotherly support and unwavering commitment” to the development of the Somali National Army, emphasizing the importance of sustained cooperation in confronting security challenges and stabilizing the country.
Turkey remains a key ally of Somalia, playing a significant role in military training and infrastructure development as part of broader efforts to strengthen national security institutions.
