NAIROBI — A delegation of traditional elders from the Somali Hawadle clan held talks in Nairobi with Somalia’s Minister of Oil and Minerals, Dr. Dahir Shire Mohamed, in a meeting focused on governance, national unity, and state-building efforts.

The discussions, described by participants as constructive and wide-ranging, centered on strengthening cooperation between community leaders and state institutions as Somalia continues efforts to rebuild governance structures after decades of conflict.

According to participants, the elders presented a series of recommendations aimed at improving public administration, enhancing political stability, and promoting collaboration between communities in support of national development.

The government minister in attendance welcomed the views expressed during the meeting, noting that the proposals would be considered as part of broader efforts to strengthen state institutions and governance frameworks.

Traditional leaders, who play a significant role in Somalia’s social and political fabric, emphasized the importance of unity, dialogue, and collective responsibility in supporting peace and rebuilding national institutions. They also underscored the need for inclusive governance to ensure long-term stability.

Despite longstanding grievances expressed by the Hawadle community regarding power-sharing arrangements within the federal system and the administration of Hirshabelle state under President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, the elders reiterated their support for any initiatives aimed at advancing Somalia’s state-building process.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to support national institutions, with participants reaffirming that cooperation between elders and government structures remains essential to Somalia’s stability and development.
