MOGADISHU — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has reportedly dispatched a delegation composed of business figures and politicians close to him to engage with politician Abdullahi Mohamed Ali, widely known as “Sanbaloolshe,” in an effort to persuade him to rejoin the Justice and Solidarity Party (JSP) and open talks aimed at resolving recent political tensions, according to informed sources.

The delegation, which included businessmen from Beledweyne and senior political figures such as the Deputy Speaker of the Upper House, held consultations with the President at Villa Somalia before being sent on the mission. Discussions are also said to have touched on grievances raised by the Hawadle clan in Hirshabelle, where power-sharing arrangements remain contentious, particularly amid disputes over the presidency and the capital’s location in Jowhar.

However, sources indicate that Sanbaloolshe rejected the delegation’s request to enter talks with President Hassan Sheikh, maintaining his position outside the party framework.

The reported mediation efforts come as the federal government faces mounting political pressure following a widely circulated interview by Sanbaloolshe on the Geedfadhi programme, which drew significant public attention. The developments also coincide with preparations by Villa Somalia for forthcoming electoral processes in Hirshabelle, where political competition and clan dynamics remain highly sensitive.
