MOGADISHU – Somalia’s National Security Adviser Aweis Haji Yusuf Ahmed on Sunday met senior officials from the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) and the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) to discuss budgetary and operational priorities, UNSOS said.

The tripartite meeting in Mogadishu brought together Aweis, AUSSOM Special Representative and Head of Mission El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, and acting UNSOS Head Qurat-ul-Ain Sadozai, according to UNSOS.

Discussions focused on coordination between Somali security institutions, AUSSOM and the United Nations, with an emphasis on logistical and financial support for ongoing security operations and stabilization efforts.

The officials also reviewed progress on joint priorities, including support to Somali security forces, stabilization activities in areas recovered from militant groups, and improving the delivery of international assistance.

Somalia and its partners continue to work closely on counter-insurgency operations against the Al-Shabaab militant group, alongside efforts to strengthen national security institutions.

AUSSOM, which succeeded the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), supports Somali forces in maintaining security and stabilisation efforts as part of wider international engagement in the country.
