Mogadishu-(HAN) – The Federal Government of Somalia has announced the postponement of the upcoming National Consultative Council (NCC) meeting, which was originally scheduled to commence on June 22 in Mogadishu.

In a statement released on Saturday, the government attributed the delay to the extensive preparations underway for the country’s Independence Day celebrations. The high-level political forum has now been rescheduled for July 15, 2025.

“Given the significance of the upcoming Independence Week festivities, the National Consultative Council meeting—originally convened by the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud—has been deferred. The meeting is now slated to take place on July 15, 2025, God willing,” the statement read.

The meeting is expected to convene senior federal officials, leaders from select Federal Member States, and the Governor of the Banadir region. However, it remains uncertain whether Puntland and Jubbaland—two states that have been at loggerheads with the federal government—will participate.

Both states have boycotted recent NCC sessions, fueling concerns over national cohesion and the stalled progress on critical governance and federalism issues.
