MOGADISHU — Villa Somalia has for the second time extended an invitation to the traditional leader of the Hawadle clan, Ugaas Yusuf Ugaas Hassan, who recently returned to Somalia after a period abroad, amid ongoing discussions over the future of Hirshabelle State.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the anticipated meeting between Ugaas Yusuf and Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is expected to focus on plans related to the restructuring of Hirshabelle’s administration and efforts to resolve political disputes that have continued to surround the state’s governance.
The invitation comes at a time when debates over representation, power-sharing, and the future political direction of Hirshabelle remain highly sensitive. Traditional elders are widely viewed as influential stakeholders in efforts to build consensus among communities and address longstanding grievances within the state.
Preliminary reports suggest the meeting could be politically significant, with attention focused on the role that traditional leadership and the federal government may play in shaping Hirshabelle’s future.
Analysts say engagement between federal authorities and influential clan elders could prove critical in addressing persistent political disagreements and strengthening stability in the state, which has faced recurring disputes since its establishment in 2016.
Neither Villa Somalia nor the office of Ugaas Yusuf has publicly disclosed details of the expected talks, but political observers say the outcome could have implications for ongoing discussions surrounding governance and reconciliation efforts in Hirshabelle.
