Mogadishu — The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, last night officially closed the commemoration of the Independence and Unity Week, marking the 65th anniversary of the unification of the regions of the country and the founding of the Republic.

Speaking at the closing ceremony held at the Council of Ministers headquarters, the President congratulated the Somali people on this historic occasion of July 1st.
The president praised both citizens at home and those in the diaspora for commemorating this year’s anniversary with great patriotism.
“The Independence Week is a time to reflect on where our journey began, the long road we have traveled, and the aspirations we strive toward. It is a national duty to remember the honorable struggle that led to Somalia’s independence, unity, and nationhood,” President Hassan Sheikh said.
The President emphasized that the Federal Government remains committed to strengthening national unity, advancing reconciliation, and completing the state-building process. He highlighted the importance of resuming dialogue between the Federal Government and our brothers in Somaliland.
“We are ready to come to the table in a spirit of sincerity and brotherhood, to work together on resolving outstanding issues so that we can uphold our sense of kinship and the unity of the Somali nation,” he added.
President Hassan called on all Somalis to actively participate in rebuilding the country and to support the government’s efforts to ensure security, liberate areas still under Al-Shabaab control, and achieve direct elections in Somalia.
