ANKARA — Türkiye and Egypt have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation and increase coordination on major regional issues, with particular attention to the conflicts and crises in Gaza, Syria, Libya and Sudan.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said relations between Ankara and Cairo are currently at a very positive level, reflecting a broader improvement in ties between the two countries after years of political differences.
Fidan said Türkiye and Egypt share important interests in maintaining regional stability and are seeking closer coordination on developments affecting the Middle East and North Africa.
The situation in Gaza is expected to remain a major focus of cooperation. Both countries have called for greater international efforts to address the humanitarian crisis and support a political solution to the conflict.
The two sides also discussed developments in Syria, where regional powers continue to seek ways to prevent further instability and address security and political challenges.
In Libya, Türkiye and Egypt have different historical positions and relationships with political actors, but both have an interest in preventing renewed conflict and supporting stability in the country.
The situation in Sudan is another major regional concern, with the ongoing conflict creating a severe humanitarian crisis and threatening wider regional stability.
Fidan said the current state of Turkish-Egyptian relations provides an opportunity for the two countries to work more closely on these issues.
The improvement in relations between Ankara and Cairo marks a significant shift from the period of political tension that followed Egypt’s 2013 political upheaval. In recent years, the two governments have taken steps to restore diplomatic and political engagement and expand cooperation.
The latest discussions demonstrate the growing importance both countries place on regional coordination, diplomatic dialogue and joint efforts to address conflicts across the Middle East and North Africa.
