DJIBOUTI CITY — Djibouti President Ismail Omar Guelleh has congratulated Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed following the Prosperity Party’s victory in Ethiopia’s June 1 legislative election, praising what he described as strong public endorsement of the ruling party’s agenda.

In a message released on Monday, Guelleh said the result reflected “broad support” for Abiy’s leadership and the political direction of the Prosperity Party, according to the Djiboutian News Agency.
He said the election outcome would help reinforce Ethiopia’s development efforts and contribute to economic growth and national stability.
The Djiboutian leader also highlighted the importance of continued cooperation between Djibouti and Ethiopia, stressing the need for closer economic and infrastructure ties.
Ethiopia remains the Horn of Africa’s most populous country and a key driver of regional trade, with landlocked Ethiopia heavily dependent on Djibouti’s ports for access to international markets.
The two countries maintain strong strategic and commercial relations, which analysts say are vital for stability and economic integration across the Horn of Africa.
