Djibouti Holds Second Civil Parade Ahead of Independence Day

DJIBOUTI — The capital on Friday hosted the second edition of the Civil Parade, a large public event aimed at promoting national unity and civic values ahead of Djibouti’s Independence Day celebrations, officials said.

The parade, launched in 2025 by the Ministry of National Education and Professional Training (MENFOP), has been positioned by authorities as an annual civic initiative intended to strengthen patriotism and encourage youth participation in national life.

This year’s edition saw increased institutional coordination, with the Ministry of Youth and Culture and the Ministry of Sports joining MENFOP in organizing the event, reflecting what officials described as a broader government effort to reinforce social cohesion and shared national identity.

Public administration staff, youth organisations and cultural groups took part in the procession, which moved through central Djibouti under tight coordination by security forces. The Ministry of Health deployed personnel along the route to provide medical assistance and ensure safety for participants.

The march began from MENFOP headquarters and passed through key landmarks in the capital, including the city centre, Place du 27 Juin, and the Boulevard de la République, drawing public attention along the route.

The event concluded at the Centre de Formation de l’Éducation Nationale, where participants gathered for a final review ceremony and the singing of the national anthem, marking the end of the parade. Officials said the initiative reflects ongoing efforts to promote civic engagement and strengthen national unity among younger generations.
