TEHRAN — Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Tuesday that Tehran would not “back down” in negotiations with Washington over the country’s rights, interests, and national principles under any circumstances.
Speaking amid ongoing diplomatic efforts between Iran and the United States, Pezeshkian stressed that Iran remains committed to defending its sovereignty and national interests while pursuing dialogue through diplomatic channels.
“We will not retreat from the rights of the Iranian nation, our interests, or our principles under any circumstances,” the president said, according to state media.
His remarks come as Tehran and Washington continue efforts to address long-standing disputes, including issues related to Iran’s nuclear program, sanctions, and regional security.
Iranian officials have repeatedly stated that any agreement must respect the country’s national interests and guarantee the lifting of sanctions, while US officials have emphasized the need for measures ensuring that Iran’s nuclear activities remain exclusively peaceful.
The latest comments underscore the challenges facing negotiations between the two countries, which have experienced decades of tensions despite periodic diplomatic engagement.
Observers say the future of the talks will depend on whether both sides can bridge significant differences over security concerns, sanctions relief, and regional issues, while avoiding further escalation in the Middle East.
