SALZBURG / KUWAIT CITY — Somali international referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan has been appointed by UEFA to officiate the 2026 UEFA Super Cup between Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa, scheduled for 12 August in Salzburg, Austria, according to football authorities.

The appointment comes after Artan was not selected for the 2026 FIFA World Cup officiating list despite earlier expectations.
In a separate assignment, Artan officiated the Kuwait Super League final on 29 June 2026 between Kuwait SC and Qadsia SC. The Kuwait Football Association later presented him with a recognition award, citing his professionalism and performance in the match.
Artan, one of Somalia’s internationally recognized referees, has taken part in multiple continental and international competitions in recent years, reflecting the growing presence of Somali match officials in global football.
Football officials in Kuwait praised his handling of the final, describing his performance as consistent and well-managed.
The appointments add to Artan’s international refereeing portfolio as he continues to feature in high-profile matches across different confederations.
