NAIROBI – A high-level Somali delegation has visited Kenya to review digital trade systems, customs modernization, and smart border management as part of efforts to accelerate Somalia’s integration into the East African Community (EAC).

The delegation was briefed on Kenya’s experience in regional payment systems, e-commerce development, and coordination among border management institutions, according to officials familiar with the visit.

Discussions focused on strengthening digital and economic integration across the region by improving trade facilitation, enhancing cross-border efficiency, and reducing bureaucratic barriers between EAC member and partner states.

Both sides emphasized the importance of modernizing customs procedures and expanding digital infrastructure to support smoother movement of goods and services within the region.

The Somali delegation’s visit forms part of a broader roadmap aimed at aligning Somalia’s trade and regulatory systems with East African standards as the country advances its EAC integration process.

Officials from both countries also highlighted the role of regional cooperation in boosting economic growth, investment opportunities, and connectivity across the Horn of Africa.

The visit reflects Somalia’s ongoing efforts to adopt digital governance tools and strengthen institutional capacity in line with regional economic frameworks.
