ADDIS ABABA – The African Union (AU) has strongly condemned the recent wave of coordinated attacks carried out across several locations in Mali, describing them as a threat to peace, security, and stability in the Sahel region.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the AU Commission expressed solidarity with the people and government of Mali following the attacks, which targeted military positions in multiple parts of the country.
The continental body reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Malian authorities and regional mechanisms engaged in efforts to combat terrorism, violent extremism, and insecurity across the Sahel.
The AU also reiterated its support for initiatives aimed at strengthening regional cooperation and enhancing security coordination to address persistent threats posed by armed groups operating in the region.
“The African Union remains committed to working with Mali and its regional and international partners to promote peace, stability, and sustainable security in the Sahel,” the statement said.
The condemnation comes after coordinated attacks struck several towns across Mali on Saturday, highlighting ongoing security challenges facing the country despite intensified military operations against insurgent groups.
The Sahel region continues to face growing security concerns linked to armed extremist organizations, cross-border militant activity, and humanitarian crises affecting millions of people.
