ADDIS ABABA — Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has alleged that Tigrayan youth are being forcibly recruited and sent to fight in neighboring Sudan, describing the practice as one of the most serious challenges facing the Tigray region.
Speaking before the House of Peoples’ Representatives during its 30th regular session, where he responded to questions from lawmakers, Abiy said there are “daily provocations” originating from forces in Tigray.
The prime minister, however, dismissed concerns about an alleged alliance involving the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), saying it does not pose a threat to Ethiopia’s sovereignty.
Abiy did not provide evidence to support the allegations during his remarks. The claims come amid ongoing tensions in northern Ethiopia and continued instability linked to the conflict in neighboring Sudan.
This version follows a more neutral news format by attributing the claims directly to Abiy and avoiding presenting unverified allegations as established facts.
