MOGADISHU – Somalia’s National Security Adviser, Ambassador Owais Haji Youssef, held talks with the Ambassador of the League of Arab States to Somalia and Acting Secretary-General of the organization, Ambassador Abdullah Al-Atibi, focusing on strengthening cooperation in security, institution-building, and counter-terrorism efforts.
The meeting took place at the Office of National Security in Mogadishu, where both sides discussed ways the League of Arab States could support the Federal Government of Somalia’s ongoing efforts to build effective state institutions, enhance national security capabilities, and promote stability.
Ambassador Owais and Ambassador Al-Atibi explored opportunities for expanding strategic cooperation between Somalia and the Arab League, particularly in areas related to regional security, political coordination, and shared interests.
The discussions highlighted the importance of continued partnership and coordination between Somalia and Arab League institutions in addressing security challenges and supporting peacebuilding efforts across the region.
Both officials emphasized the need for stronger collaboration in the fight against terrorism, including support for Somalia’s efforts to strengthen its security forces and improve national mechanisms for maintaining peace and stability.
The meeting comes as Somalia continues its state-building process, working with regional and international partners to develop stronger institutions, enhance security governance, and advance efforts toward long-term stability.
The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining regular dialogue and cooperation in support of Somalia’s goals of promoting security, peace, and development in the Horn of Africa.
